MIGRATION OF POPULATIONS
This cover was a challenge in illustrating complex ideas in a simple and elegant form.

Inspired by old paperback novels and science magazines, it is meant to be a cover for a science article or book. In that medium, there is a strong need to take a relatively complex idea such as the movement of a people, group, or species, and demonstrate the dispersal with something as simple as moving outward from a regular pattern. Each hexagon can be a person, and the whole the population, or each hexagon could be a population in itself, moving from its old habitat.

I once worked in a computational biology lab, and whether I am working or simply reading about science, I have found that the illustration of complex scientific ideas often ends up being too complex in itself for the reader to grasp the concept at a glance. Thus, this minimalist illustration, which can guide readers as they learn the details of the concept.
